FAQ

I've heard of coconut oil, but what is coconut butter?

Coconut butter is made from shredded coconut or the meat of the coconut. Similar to peanut butter, we use Binnie's Coconut Butter as a superfood spread on toast, smoothies, pancakes, waffles, fruit, oatmeal, sandwiches or even on potatoes!

Why is coconut butter healthy for me?

Coconut is full of medium chain triglycerides which is saturated fat that's good for you! It's metabolized in the liver and used up as energy right away while keeping you full and satisfied for longer. Coconut is classified as a "superfood" and has a wide range of benefits from stimulating the metabolism to improving brain function. It even contains lauric acid which kills bacteria and can ward off infections in the body. So yeah, we agree with the "superfood" thing.

Are your ingredients organic?

Yes! All of our ingredients are organic and we will be officially certified organic in the next month! Organic certification is important to us because we want our customers to know that we have taken great care and time to source premium ingredients to help facilitate the health of others and to participate in the real food movement that is going on right now in our industry!

Are your coconut butters gluten free?

Yes! Our coconut butters are gluten free, dairy free, soy free, vegan, organic, non GMO, and conducive to the paleo and ketogenic diet. We produce our coconut butters in a wheat free and peanut free facility, however there ARE tree nuts in the facility we produce.

I thought you used agave as your sweetener. Now I see that it's coconut syrup. Why the switch?

After much deliberation and research, we realized that coconut syrup is a better fit for our product because of its nutritional value. Coconut syrup has trace minerals and is low glycemic. Agave nectar is very high in fructose so we weren't comfortable with how hard the body was having to work to process that ingredient. Always striving to be better and to listen to our customers, we made the switch!

Your coconut butters are easier to spread than others. Why?

So glad you asked! We work hard in production to create a coconut butter that is easy to spread. Even though you will taste the shredded coconut in there, it should still be a spreadable consistency because we strive to be our best! We don't want you to have to heat it (and no need to refrigerate, even after opening!) so storing and serving our coconut butters at room temperature is where they perform best. Try not to let it get too hot or it will completely melt and then solidify again as it cools, adversely affecting that spreadable consistency. You can still eat it, it will just be harder to get out of the jar after solidifying.

So, what do I put Binnie Butter on?

You can get really creative with this! We love it on toast, oatmeal, crackers, apples, peaches, strawberries, (any fruit, really) yogurt, on sweet potatoes or even on sweet corn! We also like to put the vanilla on chicken or fish, and the cinnamon on a pork chop. Shake things up for dinner!
